DIRECTORATE OF EXTENSION EDUCATION

With the inception of Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Bikaner in 2010, the Directorate of Extension Education emerged as the pivotal unit for planning, organizing, and overseeing all extension activities undertaken by the University, in close collaboration with the various units/departments/centres of its constituent colleges.

The Directorate directly administers one Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) under ICAR located in Nohar (Hanumangarh) and nine Pashu Vigyan Kendras under state plan located in different districts of Rajasthan namely Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Jodhpur, Pali, Jalore, Sirohi, Chittorgarh and Dungarpur. These PVKs and KVK offer training and technology transfer to farmers, rural youth, and field functionaries.

Under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, the work of the field extension is mainly carried out through University’s colleges, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pashu Vigyan Kendra’s and Advance Research Centres sanctioned under State plan. The Directorate of Extension Education collaborates with Department of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Technology Management Agency, ICAR and other extension education agencies.

The main aim of Directorate is to transfer the well proven tested technologies to the farmers, livestock owners, rural youth, extension functionaries of State Government and other personnel engaged in developmental and professional activities in the field of animal husbandry and allied areas through its well planned, skill-oriented and need based programmes. The Directorate acts as bridge between the research scientists and the farmers and other stakeholders who are involved in extension activities. It also involves organization of animal treatment & infertility treatment camps, farmers training, exhibition, farmers- scientist interaction, front-line demonstration etc. For strengthening the extension activities, various programmes are being implemented through projects sponsored from the agencies like ICAR, RKVY, ATMA and other government and non-government organizations. The Directorate is also publishing literature on different disciplines of veterinary and allied sciences.

Broad Objectives:
 To formulate and impart in-service training to different categories of officers and functionaries from line departments of Government of Rajasthan and Non-Government Organizations.
 To conduct short and long duration vocational trainings for farmers, farm women, youth and school dropouts of the State.
 To assess and refine the latest Animal Husbandry technologies through front-line demonstrations for their wider adoption.
 To provide farm information services through various extension activities including literature for quick dissemination of technology.

Over View of Activities
 Off campus and on campus trainings for the livestock farmers.
 Extension activities like vichar gosthies, farmer’s scientist interactions, awareness camps, animal treatment camps, field visits and feedback reviews.
 Arranging Exhibitions in State and National level fairs organized for the farmer’s community.
 Radio Programme “Dhine Re Batyaa” for livestock farmers broadcasting form 17 All India Radio Stations of Rajasthan on third Thursday at 5:30 to 6:00 PM every month.
 Regular monthly publication of “Pashu Palan Naye Aaayam” and other technical folders.
 Activities under SC-SP plan of ICAR and NABARD project running at different PVKs.
 Skill Development training programmes on Goat Rearing Entrepreneurship, Poultry Farming Entrepreneurship and Dairy Farming as a new initiative
 Toll free helpline (1800 180 6224) for the benefit of livestock farmers, veterinary doctors and students.
